SlickSugar Stars and Guitars

How many times have you stood in a parking lot talking to friends after dropping your child off at one of their many activities? While my conversations tend to revolve around random nothingness, Michelle and Dana of SlickSugar developed a clothing line. Not just any clothing line, a particularly rock star one that will appeal to children and parents alike.
As we all know, the staple of any rock star wardrobe is the hoody.

SlickSugar's Stars and Guitars hoody is fantastic. I love the fact that the girl's (rockette's according to the website) hoody is pink. Is there a better way to please both a girly-girl daughter and a not girly-girl mom?!?

Take some time to really browse the website. The T-shirts are fantastic. It is always nice to find a graphic tee that doesn't discuss a child's cheeks, butt or early addictions. Go soon, they are having a sale and you can get some super cute tee's for under $20.00... what a deal!

Dragons and Daisies

I always thought I was one of the few moms’ that actually salivated over children's fashion. I can't help but peruse various websites to see what new hip clothes my kids could wear. If I had unlimited resources, my children would easily be the most stylish on the block.

I have to say that this article regarding children's fashion really disturbed me.

First, why in the world do parents want their kids to look like mini adults? As a society, are we taking away a child's right to be a child? It seems to me that expectations are higher for children on all levels (academically, developmentally and athletically). Are we only perpetuating this lack of childhood by dressing them as adults?

Second, and perhaps the most disturbing portion of this article, is a parents need to dress their child like the child of a celebrity. This is insane (in my humble opinion). While I understand the theory that celebrities have made their life choices, paparazzi or no paparazzi, I have always empathized with the day to day struggle they endure. The idea that the paparazzi are stalking these poor children so they can be fashion icons is disturbing. Even more disturbing is the fact that we, as consumers, demand it.

Therefore, my new blog Dragons and Daisies is going to focus on fashionable child appropriate clothing. Now, having said that... there may be a slip up or two, as I am only human...

There will, however, be no slip ups when it comes to pictures of the children of celebrities. In fact, just to shake it up, I would love pictures of the children of paparazzi photographers. After all, do unto others as you would have done unto you.

A New Obsession

I have found that the more time I spend at home, the less time I spend thinking about what I wear. The problem... I spend way more time thinking about what my kids are going to wear.

I have a 5 year old fashion plate who is about to start kindergarten and already loves to shop. She will spend hours with me looking at various websites searching for the perfect outfit (in her case, mostly dresses). Of course, then we have to spend another hour looking at shoes. If only I could afford to buy her everything she (or is it I) want, life would be grand.

My 3 year old son is quite a hipster himself. He is very particular about what he wears and he requires that it is "awesome!". His unhealthy obsession is shoes. He loves them. He will try to buy shoes almost everywhere we go... it is a bit odd.

My 15 month old daughter is completely oblivious to what she wears. However, she is the most fun to dress up because she will pose for the camera. If you point a camera at her and tell her to say Cheese, she will freeze and smile. It is fantastic!

So, I have decided that I am going to share a bit of my obsession. Come along for the ride if you would like... we would love to have you.
